In the Johnny Walker Classic held here in 1997, Ernie Els won with a 278(-10). Fred Couples used a 2 iron on this hole into a wet southerly wind. You might choose a driver in such a breeze on this hole - there's a "bail out" area on the right if you can't carry 185 metres.

Pro Tip: Hitting into a breeze don't strangle the club. Remember "swing easy if breezy". Downwind, tee the ball higher to get more "airtime". Choose a higher numbered iron if the hole is a par 3, as the wind assistance could be up to 15 metres and the ball will run considerably on landing.

Only 7 minutes from your villa by car is Hope Island Resort golf course. An eighteen hole traditional "links" style championship course designed by five-times British Open champion Peter Thomson, this course has been given a rating of 74 by the AGU.

The layout and design is reminiscent of the great courses of Britain and Ireland. Primarily it consists of two loops each of nine holes. The front nine starts off to the southeast in an anticlockwise direction, while the back nine head south east, finishing with a challenging and interesting seventeenth and eighteenth holes bounded by a lake.

This course has a good practice facility, consisting of putting greens, a driving range and chipping green with bunkers. The driving range is unique in that it takes the concept of driving over a lake, complete with target greens and bunkers at various distances from the practice tee.
